She was the first woman ever chosen Best Sommelier in the United States by the Sommelier Society of America. Andrea also became the first appointed Dean of Wine Studies for COPIA: The American Center for Wine, Food and the Arts in Napa in 2008. In 2007 she was appointed Master Sommelier for Delta Air Lines, for whom she chooses all of the in-flight wines for its Business Elite cabin, and hosts, with her husband John, Local Flavor, a travel show offered as part of Delta’s in-flight entertainment programming.

In 2005, Andrea received the Wine Literary Award for 'Exceptional Contribution to the Literature of Wine.' In 2004, Andrea was inducted into the James Beard Foundation's "Who's Who of Food & Beverage in America", selected as 'Wine & Spirits Professional of The Year' by Bon Appetit Magazine, and honored with the 'M.F.K. Fisher Award' by Les Dames d'Escoffier International. In 2002, the James Beard Foundation named Andrea 'Outstanding Wine & Spirits Professional'.

Andrea's first book, Great Wine Made Simple, was an enormous success, and quickly established her as one of America's top wine writers. The book was a James Beard Award nominee, and has been lauded for its original, real-world approach to wine by numerous publications including The New York Times and Wine Spectator. She subsequently published, Andrea Immer's Wine Buying Guide for Everyone (published in 2002 and updated annually), Great Tastes Made Simple, and her most recent book, Everyday Dining With Wine. Andrea's new television show, 'Pairings with Andrea' currently airing on the Fine Living TV Network, compliments her first show 'Simply Wine', also currently airing on Fine Living.

Andrea served as wine and spirits consultant on more than 100 episodes of the Food Network's 'Cooking Live Primetime', 'Hot off the Grill', and 'Emeril Live' shows. She is the wine columnist for Health Magazine, and has written articles for numerous other publications including Esquire, Real Simple, and Robb Report. She was featured on the cover of Working Mother as Working Mother of the Year, and has been profiled in People, Glamour, Elle, New Woman, "NBC Nightly News", "CBS This Morning", The New York Times, and Food & Wine magazine. Andrea has provided consulting services to Macy's, Target, Marriott International, Hilton and Olive Garden. She is a frequent speaker to the National Restaurant Association, dozens of major corporations, consumer wine groups, and top hospitality schools.

Andrea was the first Corporate Director of Beverage Programs for Starwood Hotels & Resorts and oversaw the entire beverage program for its North American hotels, including Sheraton, Westin, W Hotels, and The Luxury Collection. She also launched its award-winning wine education program, lauded by USA Today and numerous trade publications as the most innovative and far-reaching in the industry. In addition, Andrea was the first woman Cellarmaster for Windows on the World and also served as its Beverage Director. As the first-ever Dean of Wine Studies of The French Culinary Institute, from which she is an honors graduate, Andrea developed wine courses to compliment the school’s culinary programs.

With vast professional accomplishments, eight books, two television programs and an online video wine course to her credit, Andrea's down-to-earth and energetic approach to wine as well as wine and food pairings has helped demystify the subject for hundreds of thousands of consumers and beverage professionals across the globe. Despite her enviable professional stature, insightful literary prowess, and encyclopedic knowledge of wine, Andrea's immense popularity can be traced to her ability to make wine less intimidating and more approachable.
